Part of me wants to trumpet New Zealand's environmental hypocrisy and failings across the internet, but then I stop and realise that that's not going to accomplish anything at all.

I just don't get how people can be so short-sighted. Yes, I know that parents have mouths to feed, but so much of the problem is not in providing necessities for families but in acquiring unnecesssary luxuries.

David Suzuki and other well known ecologists suggest we need to band together and treat the present environmental challenges as our grandparents treated the threats posed by WWII, if we make a concerted effort, and in so doing accept that it will be tough for a while but be content in the knowledge that we're investing in the world for the sake of future generations, we'll pull through. I wish it were so, but I'm not optimistic - I really don't think the people of the priveleged West are accustomed to making any sort of sacrifices anymore - we're so used to living beyond our means (economically and environmentally) that we'll fight to the death to keep our ipods and SUVs :(liminalDhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06621859737411962756noreply@blogger.com
